West Sumatra's provincial capital and largest city, Padang is the place where the different local cultures mix and the starting point for travels around the region. As such, travelers will most likely arrive at Minangkabau Int. Airport to the north of the city and there are options to travel on by boat to the Mentawais and Nias, by road through West Sumatra and by train to Pariaman. Even when traveling on to the Mentawais or Nias, being in Padang is a great oportunity to try the Minang cuisine and learn about their culture.
